Unofficial Release EP on 12" Vinyl

Tiny Desk Concerts is a program at NPR Music of live performances, generally stripped-down, by musicians of different genres, located in Washington, D.C. The first Tiny Desk Concert came about in 2008 after Bob Boilen and NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson left South by Southwest frustrated because they couldn’t hear the music over the crowd noise. Thompson joked that the musician and folk singer Laura Gibson should just perform at Boilen’s desk. A month later Boilen arranged for her to do just that, making an impromptu recording and posting it online. The name is taken from Boilen’s 1970s psychedelic dance band called Tiny Desk Unit.

Trading belting vocals and rocking guitar for gentle piano and almost-breaking falsetto, Billie Eilish reimagines tracks like “The Greatest” in their most raw and honest form. In Eilish’s world, love’s purest forms are inherently terrifying. Therein lies her star power — she effortlessly, relentlessly brings to the fore the trickier emotions many of us tuck away for fear of what the world might think.

“I don’t know what I’m crying for, I don’t think I could love you more,” she sings on “Birds of a Feather.” Turns out the world is made up of a lot of people who just want to be seen, and this stripped down set is the perfect space for Eilish to give listeners just that.
