Allman Brothers Band — Debut

Regular price $29.95

Deluxe Ed. 180-Gram Virgin Vinyl in Gatefold Jacket or 180-Gram Double Vinyl

The debut studio album by The Allman Brothers Band is widely regarded as the genesis of Southern rock. It features the outstanding original formation of the band, which was founded in Jacksonville in 1969: Duane & Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe. Both Duane Allman and Berry Oakley would later die in motorcycle accidents (in 1971 and 1972, respectively). Originally released in November 1969, much of the material was premiered live over the preceding months. The album includes notable originals such as “Dreams,” which highlighted the band’s jazz influence, and “Whipping Post,” which became a crowd favorite. The cover for the album was taken by photographer Stephen Paley, who spent a week in Macon partying with the band while taking pictures of them anywhere in town that seemed interesting, including fields, old houses, railroad tracks and the cemetery. This deluxe 180-gram reissue in a gatefold jacket includes original artwork & credits.

Limited double 180-gram edition was remastered from the original analog tapes by Keven Reeves and then cut on copper plates using Abbey Road Mastering’s Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) lathe. It includes re-workings of “Trouble No More” and “Don’t Want You No More,” as well as notable originals such as “Dreams,” which highlighted the band’s jazz influence, and “Whipping Post.” which soon became a crowd favorite.
