The first Tiny Desk Concert came about in 2008 after Bob Boilen and NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson left South by Southwest frustrated because they couldn’t hear the music over the crowd noise. Thompson joked that the musician and folk singer Laura Gibson should just perform at Boilen’s desk. A month later Boilen arranged for her to do just that, making an impromptu recording and posting it online. The name is taken from Boilen’s 1970s psychedelic dance band called Tiny Desk Unit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eChappell Roan’s performance was recorded on March 21, 2024. Dressed in a frilly fuchsia dress and a massive red wig, she performed stripped-down renditions of her breakout pop hits, including “Pink Pony Club,” “Casual,” “Picture You,” “California” and “Red Wine Supernova.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch6\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: #00afbf;\"\u003eLimit 1 per person.
