Nirvana — MTV Unplugged
180-gram heavyweight vinyl — digital download included
Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before Kurt Cobain’s death, Nirvana MTV Unplugged is among the most personal and emotionally naked performances ever released.
This Nirvana live album — it’s only one — is way more than a stripped-down greatest hits parade. The Nirvana MTV Unplugged in New York setlist includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets’ Lake of Fire, as well as harrowing versions of David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold the World and The Vaselines’ Jesus Don’t Want Me for a Sunbeam.
This classic Nirvana album has been treated to an 180-gram vinyl pressing and includes a voucher for a MP4 AAC download.

Nirvana MTV Unplugged is the band’s “second masterpiece,” right after Nevermind. It’s Nirvana in all their ragged glory — stirring and occasionally brilliant with spare and gorgeous moments everywhere. There’s a delicacy and intimacy of the acoustic rearrangements on Nirvana MTV Unplugged that is absolutely haunting.
- About a Girl
- Come as You Are
- Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam
- The Man Who Sold the World
- Pennyroyal Tea
- On a Plain
- Something in the Way
- Oh, Me
- Lake of Fire
- All Apologies
- Where Did You Sleep Last Night?
MTV Unplugged was a big freakin’ deal in the early ’90s. The show had been airing since 1989 by the time Nirvana hit the stage at New York’s Sony Music Studios on November 18, 1993. Unplugged was primarily a showcase for mainstream artists like Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, LL Cool J, Neil Young and Aerosmith to perform their hits in an intimate setting using acoustic instruments. It was wildly popular, but Nirvana was not interested in phoning in the hits, as Nirvana MTV Live clearly shows.
The live album includes About a Girl, from the band’s debut studio album, Bleach, four songs from their second album Nevermind, three tracks from the recently released In Utero and six deep covers from artists as wide-ranging as The Meat Puppets, The Vaselines and Leadbelly.
