This 1980 studio release was the first following Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy of Low, Heroes and Lodger (1977-1979). Scary Monsters was a critical and commercial success, peaking at #1 in the UK and restoring his commercial standing in the U.S. In “Ashes To Ashes,” Bowie revisits the character of Major Tom from Space Oddity. There’s also some nice guitar work from King Crimson’s Robert Fripp.
